“Like a gold ring in a pig’s snout is a beautiful woman without discretion.” ~ Proverbs 11:22
Apparently, brassy (the word prompt of the day) means:
- tastelessly showy
- loud in appearance or manner
- lacking discretion
It takes practice to have discretion, and I don’t think it’s natural in this culture.
I am learning it, little by little…
A few years ago, I went to a ladies gathering with friends from church. I spotted my friend wearing a red gingham jumper. I recognized this jumper, because I had recently donated it to the local thrift shop. This thrift shop was also a favorite of hers.
I spoke without thinking: “Oh! That looks like the dress I just gave away! Did you get it at The Corner Thrift Shop?”
She was quietly gracious.
Discretion, self-control, and a quiet and gentle spirit. These are adornments I want to wear every day.
